- Induced polarisation probe | LIM LOGGING
IP38, the formations surrounding the borehole are subjected to an alternative square-wave voltage applied via the upper and lower injection electrodes. IP38: Induced Polarisation The formations surrounding the borehole are subjected to an alternative square-wave voltage applied via the upper and lower injection electrodes. Following each injection cycle, the resulting potential difference over a section of the formations is analysed as it decreases with time. The form of this decreases curve is related to the chargeability of the formations. A high chargeability indicates that induced electrochemical potentials are able to develop within the formations as a result of ion transfer between pore fluids and semi-conductive metallic mineral grains present within the rocks. The IP38 probe is particularly suitable for mining exploration in the context of a disseminated sulphide mineralisation. In the hydrogeological domain, it can also provide qualitative information about the permeability of potential aquifer horizons. Contact us to get a quote or request more information. ScanLIM LIBS - JV LIM-ABLATOM Our ScanLIM LIBS option project aims to combine high-precision optical digitisation for the geologist and the metal content of drill cores for the miner by miniaturising LIBS (Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy) technology. The economic aim of our project is to make this dual tool (optical and LIBS technology) transportable, so as to reduce sample (core) analysis times by being as close as possible to the drilling machine. All that will be required is a basic shelter such as a site core box with a power source. This proximity between the core extraction site and the on-site optical and LIBS analysis of the samples will save time and money, as it avoids the need to send all or part of the core boxes to the Chemical Analysis Laboratory to obtain the desired results. The NanoLIM is a drilling parameter logger that provides a simple and effective alternative for geotechnical and small foundation applications. Le NanoLIM NanoLIM Presentation NanoLIM drilling applications NanoLIM specifications NanoLIM sensors NanoLIM presentation The NanoLIM is a simple display and acquisition unit for site investigation, specially designed for outdoor use in harsh site conditions. The NanoLIM records the drilling parameters vs depth (DRILLING version) as well as the pressuremeter tests by connecting to the PressioLIM (PRESSIO version). The GEOTECH version combines the DRILLING and PRESSIO versions. The recorded drilling parameters are as follows:: Instantaneous Advance Speed (IAS) or Bit Penetration Rate, in m/h or ft/h (or m/min or ft/min); Thrust or Tool Pressure (TP) in bar or psi; Injection Pressure (IP) of the drilling fluid, air, water or mud, in bar or psi; Torque as a Pressure (TQ), in bar or psi; Optionally, Holdback Pressure (HP), in bar or psi. The NanoLIM has a high brightness Black & White screen whose the different menus are accessible via high-strength buttons adapted to site conditions. The BOR datafiles stored in the internal backup of the device can be transferred to a removable USB flash drive with automatic synchronization for download in the GEO-LOG 4 web application. Optionally, the NanoLIM can be equipped with a Wifi module making possible the wireless transfer of data files to GEO-LOG 4 . By design, this solution best responds to tight budgets without neglecting the quality of the measurement. Contact us to get a quote or request more information. - Q&A MWD TECHNOLOGY | LIM SAS
Q&A on the MWD technologies in Geotechnics and deep foundations. MWD Recording drilling parameters plays a crucial role in geotechnics, special foundations, mining and underground work. By enabling data to be collected in real time during drilling operations, they provide immediate visibility of soil and rock conditions, guaranteeing precise trajectory control and work optimization. Here, we answer the most frequently asked questions about the use and benefits of drilling parameters. FAQ What are MWDs used for ? MWDs have two purposes: to control the drilling phases and to provide geomechanical/geological information on the terrain crossed by the drilling machine. How does it work ? A number of specific sensors are installed (or directly used if already present on the machine) on the drilling machine, and a recorder collects and stores this data as a function of depth every cm, in order to produce curves on the on-site recorder in real time. This data is then automatically transmitted to the cloud for specific data processing. What types of drilling machines can be equipped with MWD ? All types of machine (mining and foundation machines). Which drilling methods are best suited to MWD? For geotechnical purposes, two drilling methods are particularly suitable - destructive rotary drilling with a tricone or equivalent, and the downhole hammer for hard ground. What are the advantages of using MWDs for core drilling ? MWDs are regularly used in core sampling to understand how the core was extracted from the ground, and to explain certain anomalies in recovery rates or core conditions. What are the main MWD parameters used ? MWDs are classified into two main families - interpretative parameters and corrective parameters (A5).the main interpretative parameters are Instantaneous Advance Speed (IAV),Rotational Torque (RT),Water Pressure (WP) and Reflected Energy (RE).the main corrective parameters are Pushing Pressure (PP) on the tool and Retention Pressure (RP).the main corrective parameters are Pushing Pressure (PP) on the tool and Retention Pressure (RP). What is the use of MWD in geotechnical engineering ? MWD can be defined as a continuous qualitative in-situ test, which also has the advantage of not having any “refusals” like a static or dynamic penetrometric test. MWD is also widely used to search for voids (sinkholes) prior to construction in void and dissolution zones (gypsum, anhydrite, old mines or galleries). Why use MWDs for mining ? MWDs can be used to adapt a blasting plan to the nature of the terrain to be blasted (it is useless, even dangerous, to use explosives in fractured or empty zones). What are the advantages of MWDs in mineral exploration ? MWDs help you to better understand the geology and tectonics of the deposit concerned. What are the raw data formats of our equipment ? LIM offers its customers and the market the use of an open and documented compressed binary format (like a zip), which is described on the https://bor-form.at/en/.Les page. XML-type exchange formats do not seem appropriate to us for raw data, as the weight of an XML file corresponding to the same .BOR file is 10x to 15x larger. MWD raw data are often used by other software programs, and we recommend importing original .BOR files directly without going through the intermediate stage of XML exchange formats (AGS or DIGGS). ➭ CONTACT US
